A brand new movie with a story not so brand new, the Contraband released worldwide on January 13th of this year. At a time when people are in good mood of holidaying and enjoying time with their friends and family while also choosing to hangout in the theatres, the time chosen for the release of the movie is perfect, no doubt. Featuring Mark Wahlberg in a reportedly important cast along with other actors like Kate Beckinsale (playing his wife), Caleb Landry Jones (as Mark’s brother-in-law), Giovanni Ribisi (the villain), Ben Foster, Lukas Haas and some more; the Contraband can be tagged in the category of good movies as there is nothing much to point out to be bad as well.
Baltasar Kormakur as the director of the movie has done quite well and shows his caliber of doing even better if a good script goes his way. The story of the movie however, is a remake of the Icelandic feature Reykjavik-Rotterdam released in 2008. In both these movies, the man in common is Kormakur which was the producer of the previous one. So, at certain point of time some deficiencies can be seen and criticism arises as a kind of perfection was expected from him due to his involvement with the same story for the second time. The drama incorporated in the movie sometimes goes beyond what is required and that makes the movie unnecessarily long and elaborated which could have been chopped down.
A 1 hour 49 minutes long movie and rated R for violence and use of pervasive language, you can see Mark Wahlberg in some action when his duty to save his brother-in-law calls him. Over all, the Contraband can be chosen for some thrilled experiences.
