The latest news from Hollywood is that superstars like Madonna, Paul McCartney and Neil Diamond have cancelled their Australian tour plans due to weal dollar. Earlier, the singing pop star, Madonna agreed to multiple dates at Docklands Stadium for the show to be held in late January 2009 but now she has cancelled them all.
The tickets for these much-awaited shows were presented by US tour giant Live Nation as well as local promoter Michael Coppel. The sale of tickets was due to start some two weeks ago. According to sources, Madonna wanted to charge $ 400.
Apart from Madonna, Neil Diamond and Paul McCartney, pop bands like the Eagles, Green Day and Metallica have also put their visits on hold owing to the poor economy. According to the promoter Michael Chugg: “It’s unknown territory at the moment. A lot of tours went on sale before the dollar crashed.”
In an interview, Mr. Coppel revealed the fact that dollar dropping has made promoters as well as touring stars a bit cautious and therefore they are cancelling or putting their visits on hold.
