Here is another hair rising movie – The bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans featuring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes. Directed by Werner Herzog, the movie is a perfect blend of human integrated animal instinct and emotions as viewed by Herzog.
Nicolas Cage plays the role of a New Orleans Cop Terrence who saves a drowning prisoner’s life and in the process injures his own back. Crazy patriot jumps into snake infested hurricane sludge. Recently promoted to Lieutenant, Terrence is responsible for revealing the truth of drug top dog Big Fate. On a lighter note, he transfers drugs to his girlfriend who is a hooker played by Eva Mendes. The throwaway gags in Herzog’s movie will not let your attention wander around.
His wide expressive eyes make an everlasting impact and will not let you blink your eye. The movie displays New Orleans as a jungle enriched with real and imagined reptiles fighting with back hunched actor Cage. The amazing direction of the movie gives it a new feel. The movie is divided between Terrence bad criminal behaviour and his detective work. It is about a man living in world which is not connected with reality and surviving it successfully.
