I must confess that I am a huge fan of the Inkheart trilogy, and I read the books a couple of times, so my review of the following movie can be a bit subjective but I think all fantasy-genre lovers will perfectly understand me. I was dying to watch this movie, but after the trailer I was a bit surprised since it contained a lot of elements so I could not place them together. I thought the following movie is a combination of the three books but that’s not true, since the film is based on Funke’s book. I would like to give you a recommendation before actually watching the movie – don’t judge it too strict or look for the omissions, rearrangements, and substitutions, simply enjoy the movie itself, because it is charming and highly enjoyable.
The movie turned to be completely hilarious and really exciting, you will never leave a cinema with a blah feeling after watching it. Dear fans of the trilogy, please, be adequate and reasonable, because it is really impossible to convert a near 600 page book into a 1:45 movie and not to miss some minor details. Inkheart tells the story of Meggie and Mo Folchart. Do you still remember it? That’s great. Anyway, the movie is completely coherent.
I love Eliza Bennett as Meggie and my absolute favourite in the film is Bettany, because he was absolutely incredible and brilliant as Dustfinger! His play was exemplary and I can’t think of any other actor performing this role better than he did. It goes without saying that he was the star of the show. I love everything about him: emotions (because they were true), facial expressions, and even voice.
One more thing I would like to mention – the settings and effects!!! Absolutely gorgeous and mind-blowing. I highly recommend to watch this movie!!!
