Oh, I love this childish horror movie. To tell the truth, I don’t remember the time when I’ve seen a better horror film. Coraline is a cute and brave eleven-year-old who finds a magic door and turns to be brave enough to walk through it and discover a parallel world. I love the voice of Dakota Fanning, although I have never paid any attention to it. The movie is full of blistering and dangerous adventures, unusual decisions and funny moments.
The movie was created by a writer and director Henry Selick, who made Nightmare Before Christmas. I must admit it is the best children-horror film I’ve seen in years. It is full of really nice and funky moments and it perfectly matches the book it is based on.
The movie is made in a popular 3D format, so the graphic and visual effects are really stunning. The style is stunning as well. Although the story has a couple of really frightening moments, it is still amazing and make children laugh and smile and not to shiver. I must admit the director tried his best and created a very adult-like movie (I mean plot and some jokes) with the child like imagery.
I don’t belong to critics, I simply can tell you my own vision and understanding but this film can easily become an instant classic. To my mind it is the first really nice film to have a wide release in 2009.
